Cable Service: Mediacom is the cable company that services the Village.  They also offer high-speed internet access and phone service. To begin service please contact Mediacom at 1-800-874-2991. 

 

Garbage Service: Groot Recycling and Waste Services, Inc. is the exclusive waste hauler that service the Village.  To begin service please contact Groot at 800-244-1977.

 

Voter’s Registration: Voter’s registration is available at the Village Municipal Centre. To register to vote, you need two forms of identification, one with your current address.  If you were not born in the United States, you will need to know the date and place of naturalization.

Shopping: Spring Grove was pleased to announce the opening of a new Jewel/Osco store in 2007 and a new Walgreens in 2008, both located on Route 12. Other shopping in Spring Grove is listed under the Shopping/Business Directory tab. Other nearby shopping centers are located along Route 31 in McHenry, including Penny's, Bed Bath & Beyond, Old Navy, Kohl's, Home Depot, K-Mart, Target, Meijer, Pier One Imports, Wal-Mart and others. If you’re looking for a shopping mall, Spring Grove is a half hour from Gurnee Mills in Gurnee, 45 minutes from Spring Hill Mall in West Dundee, 45 minutes from Hawthorne Mall in Vernon Hills and one hour from Woodfield Mall in Schaumburg.  We are also 40 minutes from the Kenosha Outlet in Wisconsin off Interstate 94.  

 
Police, Fire, Ambulance: The police and fire/rescue operations offer 24-hour professional service with the assistance of the 911 emergency system.
 

Post Office: The Spring Grove Post Office is located at 2410 Westward Drive and their phone number is 815-675-2161. Hours are Mon.-Fri. 8:30-4:30, Sat. 8:00-1:00. Lobby Hours for box access is 24 hours. Mailbox Requirements: Regulations concerning the property height and distance from the street are set by the United States Postal Service.  The mailbox should be 40 to 44 inches in height and 6 to 8 inches set back from the curb or edge of street. In addition, it is recommended that the area around the mailbox should be clear of snow in order to allow access by the Post Office.  

 

Nippersink District Library: As a resident of Richmond or Burton Township, you are eligible for free services at the Nippersink District Library.  The library hosts an extensive collection of books, magazines, videos and audiotapes.  Additional services for the public include computer rentals, story hours, reading programs, and reference services.  The Library is located at 5418 Hill Road in Richmond. Their phone number is 815-678-4014. You can access an on-line catalog or view your patron record at their website address: library.mbn.net. Library hours are Mon. - Thurs. 9:00 - 9:00., Fri. & Sat. 9:00 - 5:00.

Transportation
 
Highways:  Spring Grove is located approximately 60 miles northwest of Chicago.  Our location provides easy passage to cities throughout the county and the country.  Interstate 90, a central link to both the state and federal interstate system, is located close by the southwest corner of McHenry County.  Illinois Route 31 offers direct access to communities to the south of Spring Grove.  Both Illinois Route 173 and U.S. Route 12 provide dependable access to the north, east, and west of the Village of Spring Grove.
 
Railroads:  Spring Grove is served by the Wisconsin Southern Railroad. The Metra commuter service provides convenient transportation to Chicago and surrounding suburbs and is available in neighboring Fox Lake, McHenry and Crystal Lake.

Village Ordinances and Policies

 

Burning:  Open burning shall be prohibited within the Village of Spring Grove except as permitted below:  

a.       Campfires, less than 4 feet in diameter, less than 2 feet in height. 
b.       Grills and barbecues.  
c.       Clean untreated, dried wood or paper, in a pit or other enclosure, maximum 6 feet in diameter, dawn to dusk.  
d.       Leaves, brush, and yard waster – April, May, October, November, dawn to dusk WEEKENDS ONLY

 

Permitted fires:  

a.       Shall be attended at all times by a responsible person, capable of extinguishing the fire should the need arise.

b.       Shall be at least 30 feet from any structure, except that grills and barbecues may be closer than 30 feet provided that care must be taken to prevent spread to any structure.

c.       Shall not be ignited when the wind would create a nuisance by carrying smoke or ash near a neighboring house.

d.       Shall not be ignited on any Village street or walkway.   

e.       Shall not be ignited or fueled with any highly   flammable, explosive or hazardous material.

Peddlers/Solicitors: It shall be unlawful for any solicitor to engage in soliciting or any peddler to engage in peddling upon any public right-of-way or property within the village without first having obtained a license to do so from the village.

 

Vehicle Stickers: All residents of the Village of Spring Grove are required to purchase a vehicle sticker annually for each car, truck and motorcycle operated and/or housed in the city overnight. Vehicle stickers must be purchased and displayed by October 1 to avoid a late penalty. Persons just moving into the Village during the year have thirty days to purchase their vehicle stickers.

 

Weeds:  Grass & weeds should not exceed 8 inches on improved property and 12 inches on unimproved property (i.e. vacant lot).

 

Overnight parking regulations: Parking is not allowed on any Village street between the hours of 2:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. In emergencies and for overnight visitors, please notify the Police Department prior to overnight parking so permission can be granted to avoid issuance of tickets.

 

Dog Tags: Although the Village does not issue tags, McHenry County Animal Control requires that pets be registered and wear tags. Tags can be purchased at 11608 Banford Road in Woodstock. Their phone number is 815-338-7040. Village Ordinance stipulates that a dog must be leashed when not on the owner’s property and must be under the owner’s direct control. Please report any presence of stray animals to the Police, especially if you experience a threatening encounter or notice strange behavior. Any violation is subject to the penalties including a citation and a $25.00 fine for each separate violation. The McHenry County Animal Control can pick up stray dogs and investigate registration, charging the owner for this procedure. For the safety of all Village residents, as well as your pet, please comply with this ordinance.

 
Inoperable Vehicle or Junk Car: “Inoperable motor vehicle” means all motor vehicles which, in their present state or condition, cannot be driven on a public street or highway in full compliance with all provisions of the Illinois Vehicle Code (625 ILCS 5/1-101,et.seq.) and ordinances of the Village of Spring Grove and which have remained in such a state or condition for a period of 7 consecutive days.  
 

Emergency Warning Siren: The first Tuesday of every month the Village will test the Outdoor Weather Warning System.  The system will be activated at approximately 10:30 a.m. and will sound a solid blast siren for 3 minutes.  Any questions about the system please call the Police Department at 815-675-2596.

 

Curfew: It is unlawful for a person less than 17 years of age to be present at or upon any public assembly, building, place, street or highway at the following times unless accompanied and supervised by a parent or legal guardian or other responsible companion at least 18 years of age approved by a parent or legal guardian or unless engaged in a business or occupation which the laws of the State authorize a person less than 17 years of age to perform:

 

      ·    Between 12:01 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday and;

·        Between 11:00 p.m. on Sunday to Thursday, inclusive, and 6:00 a.m. on the following day

 

Legal Drinking Age: The legal drinking age in Illinois is 21 for all alcoholic beverages.
