Two (2) pieces of
identification are required one with name and address that is current
(picture ID is not necessary). Acceptable
ID includes driver’s license, utility bill in applicant’s name;
employee, public assistance or student ID; printed checkbook with
applicant’s name and residence address; birth certificate; mail
postmarked to applicants current address from a federal, state or
municipal agency, utility, etc.
Persons registering to
vote for the first time at their current address must live at their
address at least 30 days preceding the next election.
This does not mean that you have to be a resident for 30 days
before you can register, but 30 days from the next election.
Naturalized citizens,
citizens born in a foreign country, must furnish the court, city, state
and date of being naturalized when registering to vote.
Voter registration by
Illinois law is closed 28 days preceding an election and re-opens two days
after election day.
