McHenry County Conservation
District
The
McHenry County Conservation District
was established by the voters of the county in 1971. Its purpose, as defined
by the state statutes, is to acquire and maintain land as open space--for
Preservation, Education and Recreation. The district is governed by seven
trustees who are appointed by the McHenry County Board and have the authority to
levy taxes. State and Federal grant monies for land acquisition and development
are also utilized. The Conservation District's active land acquisition and
development program conforms to county and regional land use plans and is
reviewed and updated annually.
