We lost a great person in our village this week. Village Trustee Tom Sanders passed on July 1. Tom was a lifelong resident and servant of our community.
He started his service as Village Trustee in 1992 and became Village President in 2005 until his appointment to Chief of Police in 2007. Tom served on various committees throughout his tenure: Building & Zoning, Roads, Public Works, Finance, Architectural Review and Personal Committee. His contributions and vision of our community helped it to grow to the wonderful community we have today.
As Chief of Police, Tom was an honorable man who always put the best interests of his officers ahead of his own needs and served as a mentor for many officers in his career. He was a hands-on Chief, putting in long hours working beside his officers and leading by example.
Tom retired in 2021 and once again became a public servant as Village Trustee. His knowledge of the village will never be duplicated.
Tom was a dedicated husband, father, and grandfather who will be greatly missed by his family and community. Our deepest sympathies go out to his wife Mary and family. The village has lowered all flags to half-staff in honor of our hero Tom Sanders until his memorial service has concluded.
